There are 2 months in the year that Lassen Family Services and other crisis centers throughout the country focus on educating the public about the effects of sexual assault, child molestation and domestic violence.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month

    (April Awareness rides will be the 2nd Saturday in May in anticipation of decent weather)

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

     (October Awareness rides will be the 1st Saturday in October)

During these months, crisis centers nationally try to bring awareness to their communities through special events, so that victims of these crimes can obtain the help that they need.

Over 650,000 people are sexually assaulted every year, which translates to 78 per hour and 1.3 each minute. The average pedophile molests approximately 117 children before they are caught. Although women have been guilty of the same, men are primarily the ones who perpetrate these types of crimes.

FBI statistic’s state that 6 million women are abused by their partner’s every year. 70% of all Emergency Room assault cases are battered women. 25% of domestic violence victims are battered during pregnancy. In addition, the first violent episode often occurs with the first pregnancy.

We need the help of men in our communities if we hope to put an end to these crimes. We believe that we can do this by taking a positive approach. While asking men in several communities their opinion’s for a solution to these problems, we keep hearing the same statements echoed. “Real men don’t commit these crimes!”

This was the foundation from which the campaign “R...MAAN” was initiated. Motorcycle rides have been suggested by cycle enthusiasts. We hope to introduce other activities in the future.
